harrigan: (Locus Standi 2)
Title: Locus Standi
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Characters: Sam, Jess
Genre/pairing: het (or gen, depending on your definitions)
Rating: PG-13/teen
Word-count: @ 9-10K
Spoilers: set pre-series, Stanford-era, as requested in prompt
Warnings: none
Summary: Latin for the idiom "a leg to stand on". Legal meaning: "the right to appear in court and argue a case".
Prompt: "Stanford-era. Say Sam's got a trick knee from the hunting life -- usually it's okay, but once in a while it hurts enough that he favors it noticeably. Say he does something to re-injure this knee, maybe something heroic, maybe not. Say he's so used to treating his own injuries that he brushes off Jess' pleas to visit a doctor and wraps it and ices it by himself, like he's always done. Say the injury was far more serious than he realized, and it just keeps on getting worse -- cue Jess getting kind of frantic and begging him to go to a doctor. Say the doctor has some bad news..." Prompt posted by [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique at the [livejournal.com profile] ohsam 2011 h/c challenge in honor of their first anniversary here.

Me, too! I'm interested in seeing what Archive of Our Own has to offer!

I'm at faviconharrigan and fandoms in the immediate queue include... Supernatural, of course!

Will I archive already posted Supernatural fics there? Maybe someday...

Past fandoms I've written in (under other aliases) but will probably not archive include Combat!, Quantum Leap, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues [facepalm].. and solo shots in half-a-dozen other fandoms. But never say never! Just so you know...

2. a marked change : transformation (e.g. a sea change in public policy)
Disclaimer: Kripke owns me, not the other way around.
Author notes: Written for this [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time Dean-focused h/c remix challenge. The story I'm revisiting is, I think, the first SPN fic [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama ever posted - back in season 1/early 2006. She's one of the amazing writers who first attracted me to this fandom! And I loved her description of this little story of hers - she called it "pretty much just a h/c poptart." Mmmm... I ♥ h/c poptarts! (Check it out via the link provided above!)

P.S. Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] geminigrl11 for the speedy beta of an almost-final draft. And to [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time for organizing another great celebration of Dean h/c fic!

this way to the story... )

Author's note: for a fun prompt from [livejournal.com profile] rainylemons in the [livejournal.com profile] ohsam commentfic meme here. With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare for the flash beta AND new art!!!

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare remixed it! Squee! All those missing scenes and different POV I didn't want to write, but wanted to read?

Author's Notes: Thanks to the [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen mods for all their hard work, and to my recipient [livejournal.com profile] innie_darling for such a nice generic prompt! I tried to add some surprises to make it more special for you! Thanks, too, to my friend Marizu who's never seen Supernatural but was happy to contribute some Filipino culture and a rockin' MOTW! And finally, my gratitude to my mystery beta ([livejournal.com profile] miz24601) and to those friends who always try to keep me focused on both quality and having fun, even when the contradiction makes me cross-eyed.
Summary: If you lived next door to the Winchester family in 1993, would you call Child Protective Services?
Prompt: a case in an urban setting- Philadelphia or New York would be especially appreciated (modern or past is up to you).

The Tomato Plant Doesn't Grow Mangos

So - did everyone guess this was mine?

P.S. I have been amazed by the variety of stories in [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen this year! I've bookmarked a number to re-read. Was delighted to find many of my favorite authors doing stuff that knocked my socks off, and to discover some writers I wasn't too familiar with before who I'll definitely go out of my way to look for in the future.

And I was delighted with The War Correspondent by [livejournal.com profile] vanillafluffy for my prompt to see Sam and Dean as soldiers (AU okay). Cool surprise!OPOV and fun historical verisimilitude. Sam with pneumonia! Dean on a motorcycle! Good times!

Title: Ease His Pain
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Rating: PG
Word Count: @ 3645
Warnings/Spoilers: set in season 5
Summary: Sam finds a Field of Dreams.
Author's note: for the 2010 [livejournal.com profile] ohsam commentfic party here! For the prompt: "Sam with a bad leg! (why the hell not, huh?)" from [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique. (My favorite prompt, always!) With many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare for the awesome cover art and the rush rough draft beta!
(P.S. I wrote most of this - part of a longer story - in mid-season 5, long before I knew anything about 5.16 Dark Side of the Moon, as [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare will attest. Then it got Kripke'd and I set it aside, but I figure this commentfic opportunity is a good place to pull it out again. Hope you enjoy!)
Special credit: to the movie Field of Dreams, written by Phil Alden Robinson, based on the novel Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella!

harrigan: (happily ever after)
There's really nothing like the feel of a book in your hands, pages to turn... I've often longed for my favorite SPN fics in a paperback I could wallow in wherever and whenever I wanted!

And now I can! I bid on [livejournal.com profile] liptonrm in the [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti charity auction to help me put such a book together. It's finally finished, and I'm wallowing in it, and I'd be happy to make it available to any other interested fans, at cost. (It's a nice way to celebrate everyone turning in their 2010 [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen fics this weekend, too, isn't it?)

summergen

harrigan: (Working - do not disturb)
I will probably come back and delete this post next month, because I'm still not comfortable posting anything but fic here. With very rare exceptions.

But in case my [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen writer pops in here, I have something to say.

Many of my very favorite SPN writers are moaning that they are uninspired by their assigned prompts, or their stories suck. So, hey, if you feel that way too? You might just already be one of my favorite writers! Or about to join their ranks!

Really, I'm the kind of person who enjoyed every single episode of SPN. So as long as your story is about Sam and Dean, I'll probably like it! Anything else is gravy icing on the cake.

I also believe that everyone (most especially me) could do a better job if there wasn't a deadline. So if you think you could have done better if you had more time? I believe you! Mine would be, too! If you'll try not to feel apologetic about your contribution, I'll try not to feel apologetic about mine.

I hope you have fun!

8/7/2010 ETA: It's been posted, and I ♥♥♥ it! Check it out: The War Correspondant!

Thank you, anon!
harrigan: (tardis)
You guys - I am really tempted! Which is crazy, because I already signed up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen even though I am probably incapable of writing a story in less than four months.

But still - doesn't this look tempting?! And right up my alley?

[livejournal.com profile] warbigbang[livejournal.com profile] warbigbang[livejournal.com profile] warbigbang

(Where was this 18 months ago when I was slaving over River of Blood?)

ETA: I decided not to... I've got my plate full of other projects, fannish and not, and I'm not positive the story would end up 20K. I don't want the experience of writing it to be more stressful than fun. So -- it's back in my back pocket. I may tell it one day (although it's J2AU gen - who wants to read that besides me? *g*). But no rush.
