Title: Eye of the Beholder
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: gen
Rating: PG
Word count: 1432
Summary: preseries holiday ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] de_nugis and originally posted at [livejournal.com profile] hi_de_nugis.
Author note: I started to write a little angsty ficlet about our favorite damaged young men, but for various reasons I couldn't bring myself to linger in that mindset right now. So... this is what happened! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] geminigrl11, who titled, beta'd, and generally improved this.

Author: [personal profile] harrigan
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: gen
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: @ 8200
Spoilers: Prologue is a missing scene (aka a gratuitous shower scene) from episode 6.12 (Like a Virgin) to fulfill some of the prompt elements. Main story contains spoilers for events in early season 7 and is set immediately before episode 7.08.
Warnings/credits: No warnings. Title comes from a song title by Black Sabbath, which in turn is a reference to an H. P. Lovecraft short story of the same name.
Thanks: I couldn't have done this without the SupernaturalWiki and the invaluable beta services by geminigrl11 - thank you! Title card is courtesy of the wonderful scullspeare.
Summary: From the prompt: S6 Gen or Wincest. Sam wakes up after he gets his soul back; he's confused and stiff after lying there for ten days. He notices when walking up the stairs one of his knees or his hip feels worse than the rest of him but he doesn't think about it--he needs to find Dean. As time goes by his leg doesn't get any better and the pain grows worse. Finally Dean drags him to the doctor and it turns out Soulless!Sam ignored an injury because it would mean too much downtime between hunts and now Sam has to deal with the consequence of it. Prompt posted by chaos_slave, written for the ohsam Sam-focused hurt/comfort fic challenge here.

Summary: World War II rages across Europe, but Jarek and Jensen are out of the fight - two downed RAF pilots who find themselves unexpected bunkmates in Stalag Luft III. Determined to escape, they spend the years behind barbed wire contributing their own unique skills to a daring mass escape attempt. Finally, on a cold, moonless night in 1944, they're among the dozens of POWs who make it out before the tunnel is discovered. Hitler is enraged and orders a ruthless manhunt, with orders to execute the recaptured airmen.

As Jarek and Jensen begin the long, dangerous journey home, secrets come out. They get separated.

After the war, Jarek tracks down his orphaned 7-year-old niece Rosie and tries to make a home with her in a Polish Resettlement Camp in England. But he's still haunted by the choice Jensen made.

Title: Locus Standi
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Characters: Sam, Jess
Genre/pairing: het (or gen, depending on your definitions)
Rating: PG-13/teen
Word-count: @ 9-10K
Spoilers: set pre-series, Stanford-era, as requested in prompt
Warnings: none
Summary: Latin for the idiom "a leg to stand on". Legal meaning: "the right to appear in court and argue a case".
Prompt: "Stanford-era. Say Sam's got a trick knee from the hunting life -- usually it's okay, but once in a while it hurts enough that he favors it noticeably. Say he does something to re-injure this knee, maybe something heroic, maybe not. Say he's so used to treating his own injuries that he brushes off Jess' pleas to visit a doctor and wraps it and ices it by himself, like he's always done. Say the injury was far more serious than he realized, and it just keeps on getting worse -- cue Jess getting kind of frantic and begging him to go to a doctor. Say the doctor has some bad news..." Prompt posted by [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique at the [livejournal.com profile] ohsam 2011 h/c challenge in honor of their first anniversary here.

Disclaimer: Kripke owns me, not the other way around.
Author notes: Written for this [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time Dean-focused h/c remix challenge. The story I'm revisiting is, I think, the first SPN fic [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama ever posted - back in season 1/early 2006. She's one of the amazing writers who first attracted me to this fandom! And I loved her description of this little story of hers - she called it "pretty much just a h/c poptart." Mmmm... I ♥ h/c poptarts! (Check it out via the link provided above!)

P.S. Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] geminigrl11 for the speedy beta of an almost-final draft. And to [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time for organizing another great celebration of Dean h/c fic!

this way to the story... )
harrigan: (This Isn't Little Big Horn)

Title: This Isn't Little Big Horn
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Rating: PG
Word Count: @ 3K
Summary: Dean has always understood that one day there would be a final hunt from which he doesn't make it home. This is that hunt. But apparently Sam didn't get the memo.
Author's note: for a fun prompt from [livejournal.com profile] rainylemons in the [livejournal.com profile] ohsam commentfic meme here. With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare for the flash beta AND new art!!!

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare remixed it! Squee! All those missing scenes and different POV I didn't want to write, but wanted to read?
They're here in It's My Job! Check it out!

Title: The Tomato Plant Doesn't Grow Mangos
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Rating: PG
Word count: @ 12,000
Warnings: none
Author's Notes: Thanks to the [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen mods for all their hard work, and to my recipient [livejournal.com profile] innie_darling for such a nice generic prompt! I tried to add some surprises to make it more special for you! Thanks, too, to my friend Marizu who's never seen Supernatural but was happy to contribute some Filipino culture and a rockin' MOTW! And finally, my gratitude to my mystery beta ([livejournal.com profile] miz24601) and to those friends who always try to keep me focused on both quality and having fun, even when the contradiction makes me cross-eyed.
Summary: If you lived next door to the Winchester family in 1993, would you call Child Protective Services?
Prompt: a case in an urban setting- Philadelphia or New York would be especially appreciated (modern or past is up to you).

The Tomato Plant Doesn't Grow Mangos

So - did everyone guess this was mine?

P.S. I have been amazed by the variety of stories in [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen this year! I've bookmarked a number to re-read. Was delighted to find many of my favorite authors doing stuff that knocked my socks off, and to discover some writers I wasn't too familiar with before who I'll definitely go out of my way to look for in the future.

And I was delighted with The War Correspondent by [livejournal.com profile] vanillafluffy for my prompt to see Sam and Dean as soldiers (AU okay). Cool surprise!OPOV and fun historical verisimilitude. Sam with pneumonia! Dean on a motorcycle! Good times!

harrigan: (Ease His Pain)

Title: Ease His Pain
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Rating: PG
Word Count: @ 3645
Warnings/Spoilers: set in season 5
Summary: Sam finds a Field of Dreams.
Author's note: for the 2010 [livejournal.com profile] ohsam commentfic party here! For the prompt: "Sam with a bad leg! (why the hell not, huh?)" from [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique. (My favorite prompt, always!) With many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare for the awesome cover art and the rush rough draft beta!
(P.S. I wrote most of this - part of a longer story - in mid-season 5, long before I knew anything about 5.16 Dark Side of the Moon, as [livejournal.com profile] scullspeare will attest. Then it got Kripke'd and I set it aside, but I figure this commentfic opportunity is a good place to pull it out again. Hope you enjoy!)
Special credit: to the movie Field of Dreams, written by Phil Alden Robinson, based on the novel Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella!

Go the distance... )
harrigan: (tardis)
You guys - I am really tempted! Which is crazy, because I already signed up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen even though I am probably incapable of writing a story in less than four months.

But still - doesn't this look tempting?! And right up my alley?

[livejournal.com profile] warbigbang[livejournal.com profile] warbigbang[livejournal.com profile] warbigbang

(Where was this 18 months ago when I was slaving over River of Blood?)

ETA: I decided not to... I've got my plate full of other projects, fannish and not, and I'm not positive the story would end up 20K. I don't want the experience of writing it to be more stressful than fun. So -- it's back in my back pocket. I may tell it one day (although it's J2AU gen - who wants to read that besides me? *g*). But no rush.
harrigan: (KFZA)

Title: Kung Fu and the Zombie Apocalypse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Rating: G, except for a four-letter word or two
Spoilers: pre-series.
Warnings: Smoking! (gasp! Because it's for [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique and that's her thing.)
credits: banner nicked from There are Monsters Everywhere by Mercer Mayer. Beta by [livejournal.com profile] miz24601 - my thanks, always!
Word Count: @ 6100
Summary: from the Fall Fandom Free-for-All for [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique who requested Stanford-era fic. (The rest of her request is spoilerish so it will be revealed at the end.) Needless to say, it's not Fall any more. Oops - sorry! So Happy Birthday, instead!

writing's always more fun when there's a little orthopedic trauma in it.... )

Sometimes fandom wank can make me just want to step away from the internet! But most of the time, being online is an amazing place to wallow in the creative talents that fandom inspires, and to appreciate how very generous the hardworking fans are at sharing the fruits of their labors with people they've never met.

One of my favorite things about fandom is when people come together to offer their skills to benefit charity, such as the 2009 Sweet Charity fund raiser that raised funds for RAINN this year. I want to do my part to help - and it's a complete pleasure when the act of giving brings me something so awesome and unique in return.

What I won... )

Title: River of Blood
Rating/Warning: SPN gen (PG-13)
word count: 42K, not counting author notes
spoilers: set early in season 3, just after episode 3.03 Bad Day at Black Rock
Summary: A summoning ritual backfires. Instead of drawing the restless spirit of Corporal Leamon Griffith to them, Sam and Dean find themselves catapulted to the side of a young Union soldier, just hours before he goes MIA - in 1863.

(i.e. I throw the boys into the Civil War. Themes of courage and honor, sacrifice and forgiveness follow them wherever they go, apparently.)

My thanks to [livejournal.com profile] miz24601, who scrutinized every blessed word for things that might make a reader stumble or snore (I think I owe you a new red pen, Lisa!); and also to [livejournal.com profile] shallowz and [livejournal.com profile] geminigrl11, who then read the whole story in one fell swoop when it was finished and provided additional invaluable feedback. (Of course, none of them have seen the final final draft after my tweaks, so all mistakes are my own.)

Post edited to add: thanks to the generous efforts of [livejournal.com profile] liptonrm, who donated her talents in the 2009 Sweet Charity fund raiser, River of Blood is now available as a paperback from cafepress, or as a pdf download here!

harrigan: (Blue Moon Rising)

Author: [livejournal.com profile] harrigan
Artists: [livejournal.com profile] lady__vaako (cover art) and [livejournal.com profile] shallowz for interior/ending art.
Genre: gen
Pairing: none
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 25,500, give or take a few: download also available here at Ebook Library: Fanfiction on the Run and with my faviconharrigan downloadable AO3 fics here.
Warnings/Spoilers: No spoilers (it’s pre-series; Sam’s a senior in high school) but it’s been totally Kripke’d by ‘Heart’ !
Disclaimer: oh Kripke! You own us, not the other way around.
Summary: Dean is the brains this time and Sam is the brawn, and Equal Opportunity Whumpage ensues when the Winchester boys confront their first werewolf.

This is my 2007 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang contribution. (What was I thinking?!) Credit also to the brilliant Maurice Sendak, whose classic book Where the Wild Things Are is quoted in this story. Special thanks to the amazing artists:
  • [livejournal.com profile] lady__vaako whose awesome cover/banner shown above (and also here) was an inspiration to me when I might have otherwise faltered and thrown in the towel, and
  • [livejournal.com profile] shallowz (1) whose interior art brought the characters and scenes to life, and made me go ‘meep!’ You can leave her comments here!
Everlasting gratitude and friendship to the beta crew:
  • [livejournal.com profile] quellefromage, who tried her best to whip this story into shape, always challenged me to do better, and then gave in gracefully when I couldn’t, and
  • [livejournal.com profile] miz24601, who stepped up willingly when I needed another pair of eyes (and another shoulder to cry on), and
  • [livejournal.com profile] shallowz (2), the comma nazi (who did the final proof in the final day or two and made 467 suggestions for improvement!)
(All mistakes are my own, because I wouldn’t always listen!)

And finally - to the challenge instigators and all the SPN fans who encourage each other to be creative and silly and thinky and above all, to have fun - thanks! It wouldn't be the same without you!
